UK press see US Wikileaks as bombshell in international relations

London, Nov 29, IRNA -- The contents of thousands of secret US diplomatic memos uploaded to whistleblowers' website Wikileaks were splashed all over the front pages of British newspapers Monday as a ‘bombshell’ in international relations.
'One Tiny Memory Stick: One Big Headache For The United States', said the Guardian, which published the first extracts of over quarter of a million diplomatic cables from 37 US embassies around the world.
The Financial Times said the leaks left the Obama administration 'scrambling' to limit the damage and warned they were likely to have a “lasting impact'.
The Independent focused on the revelation that US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton signed an order directing diplomats to gather personal details about key UN figures, saying it represents a 'blurring' of diplomatic work and spying.
In its headlines, the Daily Mail said that the “biggest security breach in history reveals US contempt for world.” It suggested that there could be international calls for Clinton to step down.
“There are fears that revealing the secrets could damage Britain's special relationship with the US,” the Sun warned concerning the criticism of Prime Minister David Cameron and British royal, Prince Andrew, that were described as “vicious slurs'.
The deputy editor Benedict Brogan of the Daily Telegraph said that although the leaks are an embarrassment, there was “little substance that will do nothing to reshape geo-politics'.
