Amiri's freedom has nothing to do with American detainees: official
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, July 15, IRNA -- A Foreign Ministry official said on Thursday that the freedom of the detained Iranian researcher, Shahram Amiri, has nothing to do with the issue of three Americans arrested in Iran.
Hassan Qashqavi, Deputy Foreign Minsiter for Consular and Majlis Affairs told reporters gathered at Imam Khomeini International Airport, in southern Tehran, that the future will prove that the freedom of Amiri had nothing to do with the exchange of three American citizens under detention in the Islamic Republic.
Three American citizens who illegally entered the Iranian territory on July 31, 2009, are currently under detention in the country.
Congratulating the return of the Iranian researcher to Iran, Qashqavi appreciated great efforts made by the Iranian diplomatic system to help release Amiri.
He reiterated that Mr Amiri had the right to lodge complaints against Washington at international bodies.
The Islamic Republic of Iran has followed up the case of Amiri and will continue its efforts in the future, he added.
Amiri, a university researcher, disappeared during a pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia last June. He was abducted by US agents with the help of the Saudi intelligence service.
