Iranian kidnapped researcher back in Iran

Tehran, July 15, IRNA -- kidnapped researcher Shahram Amiri who was transferred to US in a joint operation of the CIA and the Saudi intelligence offices last year was transferred to Iran after taking refuge at interests section of Iran in Washington.

According to IRNA, Amiri was received at the Imam Khomeini International Airport by the Foreign Ministry Consular and Parliamentary Affairs Deputy Hassan Qashqavi and a large number of Iranian and foreign reporters.

Amiri was released thanks to the efforts made by the Islamic Republic of Iran followed by the release of an Internet footage aired by him and the effective cooperation of the Embassy of Pakistan in Washington.

He arrived in Iran in early hours of Thursday morning having left Washington and after a short stop at a third country.

The spokesman of the IRI Foreign Ministry had said earlier Wednesday that his affiliate ministry would pursue its efforts regarding the responsibilities of the US government regarding the kidnapping of Amiri through diplomatic and legal channels.

Amiri had been kidnapped on the way home from his Hajj pilgrimage last year.
