NORFOLK (NNS) -- A delegation of intelligence representatives from the Republic of Korea (RoK) visited the Center for Naval Intelligence (CNI) in Virginia Beach, Va., June 28, for an overview of U.S. Navy intelligence training.
The delegation was led by RoK Air Force Maj. Gen. Hak Soo Yoon, director of intelligence for Combined Forces Command (CFC) and United Nations Command (UNC).
Also visiting was Yoon's American counterpart, U.S. Army Brig. Gen. Mark W. Perrin, director of intelligence for U.S. Forces Korea, who also serves as Yoon's deputy director of intelligence for CFC and UNC.
The visit was hosted by CNI Commanding Officer Capt. Donald P. Darnell Jr. and included a tour of intelligence training facilities in Dam Neck. CNI staff presented an overview of how the U.S. Navy intelligence community accomplishes its training mission. The delegation toured classroom facilities at CNI's primary school, the Navy-Marine Corps Intelligence Training Center, which is co-located with CNI.
"Every visit from an allied nation allows us to share our expertise in training junior intelligence specialists and officers," said Darnell. "We often learn a great deal from our visiting delegations as they share their intelligence training methods and techniques."
Perrin took the opportunity to address a class of new intelligence officers attending the 20-week in-residence Navy Intelligence Officer Basic Course, remarking on the military's investment in their training and the duties that will fall to them upon graduation.
"Within a year, you'll be supporting operations and commanders who have to make important decisions," said Perrin. "This is a great opportunity for you to learn everything you can here in training."
The delegation departed CNI bound for Washington, D.C., to visit the Defense Intelligence Agency. The U.S. visit included stops at Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas; U.S. Army Training Command at Fort Monroe, Va.; and the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, Calif.
