Suspected Mossad agent arrested in Warsaw for role in Dubai killing

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Berlin, Jun 12, IRNA -- A suspected Mossad agent who is on the German wanted list for his role in murder of a Hamas official in Dubai in January, has been arrested earlier this month at Warsaw airport upon entering the country, the weekly Der Spiegel reported Saturday.

An Israel passport holder, named 'Uri Brodsky', is accused of preparing the logistics for the January 20 killing of Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh at a luxury hotel in Dubai.

The suspect was active for Mossad in Germany and German authorities had therefore put his name on the Interpol's most wanted list.

According to German investigators, 'Brodsky' had accompanied another Mossad operative to the residents' registration office in the city of Cologne to apply for a German passport which was used in the Dubai murder mission.

The latest arrest has led to diplomat problems as the Israeli embassy in Warsaw has reportedly intervened to halt the extradition of the Mossad agent to Germany.

It is yet unclear whether Poland will agree to the Israeli demand.

Mossad death squads have in the past used German passports for secret operations although some of them had been forged, according to press reports.

Germany and Israel have a very deep military and intelligence cooperation whose details remain highly secretive to the German public.
