Foreign Ministry summons Swiss ambassador

IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency

Tehran, June 9, IRNA -- Following publicity of documents related to abduction of Shahram Amiri by US Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and transferring him to US, Swiss Ambassador to Tehran Livia Leu Agosti was summoned to Foreign Ministry Tuesday.

According to the report of Foreign Ministry Media Department, Director General for North and Central America Ali Akbar Reza'ei told the ambassador that the US government is fully responsible for safeguarding Mr. Amiri's life and health conditions. He added that the act of abduction of the Iranian scholar is contrary to all international laws, human rights and the US obligations for conventions.

He called for preparing the ground for immediate and unconditionally return of Amiri to Iran.

Meanwhile, documents concerning the abduction of Shahram Amiri and a note of protest was presented to the Swiss ambassador.

Swiss Embassy works as the US Interests Section in Iran, after ties with US were severed in an aftermath of the 1979 US Embassy takeover in Tehran.
