Spokesman: Exchanging Amiri with arrested Americans improper issue
IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, June 8, IRNA -- Iran’s Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehman-parast said exchanging the abducted Iranian citizen Shahram Amiri with three arrested Americans was an improper suggestion.
He made the remark while talking to reporters during his weekly press briefing.
Noting that as a rule exchanging people whose cases were still legally open was an improper issue, he stressed that the judicial investigations about the three American citizens who illegally entered a very sensitive region in Iran were still underway.
However, he added, Shahram Amiri is an Iranian citizen who was abducted and kept in detention against all humanitarian principles. He said Amiri was denied consular access and his situation clearly means “abduction”.
Mehman-parast further noted that the three Americans currently in detention in Iran are provided consular access, have already met their families and are living in the best conditions.
