IRNA - Islamic Republic News Agency
Tehran, May 12, IRNA – Released Iranian-US journalist Roxana Saberi’s lawyer said here Monday night after receiving President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad’s letter the appeals court scrutinized in my plaintiff’s case, leading to her release eventually.
Abdol-Samad Khorramshahi referring to the IRI President’s letter to the Judiciary Force regarding Roxana Saberi, added in an interview with IRNA Social Desk reporter in front of Evin Prison moments before release of Roxana, “The Appeals Court considered her guilty in accordance with Article 505 of the Civil Law, after scrutinizing into the matter very carefully, but changed the topic of her crime, thus decreasing the length of her imprisonment term from eight years into a two-year suspended term for five years.”
Khorramshahi said that in accordance with that verdict, Saberi is not allowed to work as a journalist in Iran for five years, emphasizing, “All the same, my plaintiff faces no restrictions for living in Iran, or leaving the country, which is all up to her choice.”
He further stressed, “Saberi is free as of today and during the course of her five year suspended term she should not repeat the same crime so that her two year term, too, would be annulled.”
