Information Minister: Saberi's trial held legally

Tehran, April 21, IRNA – Information Minister Gholam-Hossein Mohseni Ejeie said on Tuesday that the trial of Roxana Saberi has been held based on the laws of the country.
Speaking to reporters, he said the letter sent by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in this regard was in line with the country’s governing rules.
“The letter was addressed to the Judiciary body but as far as the Information Ministry is concerned, we will pay due attention,” he said.
On Saberi’s nationality, he said she has held its Iranian passport and when arrested she did not deny her Iranian identity.
Although she has dual nationality but entered the country with her Iranian passport, he said.
As normal procedures, the preliminary investigation had been conducted by an anti-espionage expert, he said.
Following the information obtained, the court found Saberi guilty and issued verdict against her, he said.
As general procedures, the verdict can be appealed in due course, he pointed out.
