BAE SYSTEMS TO LAUNCH COMMUNICATIONS CENTER AT LIBERTY STATION

01 Jul 2008 | Ref. 202/2008

SAN DIEGO, California — BAE Systems is establishing a maritime development center for command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I) systems at its Liberty Station complex in Point Loma, California.

The company’s new 80,000-square-foot Liberty Station facility will focus on research, development, testing, and integration of large-scale C4I network systems to help solve current, emerging, and future customer mission requirements. Liberty Station will be the center of BAE Systems’ support to all regional Department of Defense, intelligence, and homeland security contracting agencies -- including Space and Naval Warfare Systems Command and the Joint Program Executive Office, Joint Tactical Radio System.

”The Liberty Station facility demonstrates BAE Systems’ commitment to the C4I community by providing an environment to develop innovative solutions through close interactions with our customers and end-users,” said Mike Heffron, president of Electronics & Integrated Solutions for BAE Systems. “The technologies we develop here will increase commanders’ decision-making ability through timely, actionable intelligence.”

BAE Systems is a leading provider of C4I information systems, wireless communication networks, and geospatial intelligence systems to U.S. armed forces and allied nations. The Liberty Station facility will complement the company’s other California locations in Rancho Bernardo, National City, Vista, Temecula, and downtown San Diego, as well as support virtual operations with BAE Systems sites worldwide.

”We are honored to have Liberty Station serve as a home to BAE Systems,” said Joe Haeussler, senior vice president of Corky McMillin Cos. “BAE Systems’ presence at Liberty Station showcases McMillin’s hard work to create this well-designed, mixed-use community. Credit also goes to advance planning performed by the U.S. Navy and the City of San Diego’s Redevelopment Agency.”

The company signed a 10-year lease with the Corky McMillin Companies, as the primary tenant of the 105,000 square foot office space in the Liberty Station, located at the former Naval Training Center. Initial occupancy is planned for June 2009, with final construction expected to be complete in August 2009. Approximately 200 BAE Systems employees will work at the Liberty Station facility. The company employs 3000 people in the region.
