RIA Novosti

30/03/2007 12:51 MOSCOW, March 30 (RIA Novosti) - A district military court in Moscow has given retired Colonel Valentin Shabaturov a 12-year sentence for treason and espionage.

The court verdict said Shabaturov, who was arrested at Sheremetevo airport in Moscow a year ago, had been recruited by a European country and received $100,000 for his services.

"The defendant actively cooperated with foreign intelligence for seven years, from 1999 to 2006, and revealed state secrets to them, causing substantial damage to Russia's national security," the verdict said.
