The usually American-friendly Dutch government expressed concern over the existence of secret CIA prisons, DPA reported on Friday.
Dutch Prime Minister Jan-Peter Balkende said following a cabinet meeting he was "irritated and concerned" over the long silence of the US administration on this matter.
Such a behaviour affects the relations of two allies, Balkende was quoted as saying.
"Such a thing should not happen too often," he added.
The Dutch parliament will hold an inquiry into this affair next week.
Recent revelations by American President George W Bush that the CIA has held terrorism suspects in facilities outside the US, have caused a storm of outrage all over Europe.
Bush on Wednesday admitted for the first time that the CIA was running secret prisons for holding and interrogating high level al- Qaida figures captured since the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks.
The Netherlands have been among the strongest European supporters of the US-led invasion and occupation of Iraq and has deployed troops there.
