Pakistan declares Indian diplomat 'persona non grata'

Islamabad, Aug 5, IRNA

Pakistan has declared an Indian diplomat persona non grata on charges of 'holding sensitive documents', a TV channel reported on Saturday.

Indian consular Deepak Kaul was caught red handed while receiving sensitive documents from a Pakistani source, Geo television reported, while quoting official sources.

Deepak Kaul is serving as visa consular in the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.

There was no Foreign Office confirmation of the report.

Kaul was questioned by Pakistani investigators and it was proved that he was involved in activities incompatible of his diplomatic position, the television reported.

The Indian High Commission has been formally informed about Pakistan's decision, it said.

The report said that the Pakistani source in contact of the Indian diplomat is also being questioned.

A source said that the Indian consular has been given 48 hours to leave Pakistan.

Pakistan and India had expelled each other's diplomats in the past but Islamabad's latest decision comes at a time when the two countries suspended high level talks last month following seven blasts on trains in the Indian city of Mumbai.
