The European Parliament will debate and vote during its session in Strasbourg on Thursday on the interim report of the EP's Temporary Committee on illegal CIA activities in Europe.

The report says the CIA was directly responsible for extraordinary renditions in Europe. The committee will also hear from Swiss senator Dick Marty, who is leading the parallel Council of Europe
investigation.

The CIA was "directly responsible" for extraordinary rendition, "illegal seizure, removal, abduction and detention of terrorist suspects on the territory of EU member states, accession and candidate countries", all of which constitute violations of international law, reads the EP report.

The EP decided in January to set up a 46-member temporary committee to investigate whether the CIA carried out illegal rendition in Europe.

Last week, the Council of Europe, the pan-European human rights body adopted a report after eight months of preliminary investigation which said the secret prisons to be part of the 'global spiders web' that the CIA has created under the program named 'rendition' during mid-1990s.

According to the report, 14 European countries acted "willingly and deliberately" in the US rendition program to transport prisoners abducted in countries like Pakistan, Afghanistan, Sweden, Italy, Bosnia, and Macedonia.
