IAI To Display Bird-Eye 400 Mini-UAV At The Paris Air Show

Jun 13, 2005

Israel Aircraft Industries' Malat Division will display its newest Unmanned Aerial Vehicle development, the Bird-Eye 400 Mini-UAV, at the 2005 Paris Air Show.

Malat has developed a family of micro and mini UAV systems especially designed for tactical reconnaissance. The UAVs are operated by one or two soldiers in support of small fighting units and operate autonomously once launched. All models use digital map referencing and are fully automated with "in flight" way point control.

The Bird-Eye 400 Mini-UAV is packed into two carriers and can be operated by two soldiers. The UAV is easily assembled and flight ready in minutes. Missions are planned using digital map referencing and viewed on a computer monitor. Bird-Eye 400 is electrically operated with low acoustic signature and 80 minutes flight time. Typical operational altitude is 500-1000 feet above ground level; its operational range is 15 km (9.3 miles). Weight at take-off is 4.1kg (9.04 lb.); wingspan of 2 meters (6.56 ft) and 0.8 meters (2.62 ft) in length.

IAI's Malat Division is one of the worlds leading UAV systems design and manufacturing firms. Its UAVs are now operating in fifteen countries with over twenty customers and have accumulated more than 250,000 flight hours.
