Multi-Mission Airborne Reconnaissance Surveillance System (MARSS) Developed By IAI' Elta Systems Group

Jun 13, 2005

A new Multi-Mission Airborne Reconnaissance & Surveillance System (MARSS) system has been developed by Israel Aircraft Industries' Elta Systems Group (IAI Elta). MARSS is an airborne intelligence and C4I system that performs simultaneous signal intelligence (SIGINT) and image intelligence (IMINT) missions in all-weather conditions.

MARSS is equipped with a communication intelligence (COMINT) system and electronic intelligence (ELINT) system to provide a real-time electronic order of battle (EOB) of all the communication networks and radars in the theater.

The aircraft uses a Synthetic Aperture Radar / Ground Moving Target Indicator (SAR/GMTI) and a long-range day and night electro-optical sensor to gather high quality Imagery Intelligence (IMINT). Images are collated by an onboard command and control center before being transmitted to a ground-based command center where a comprehensive theater situation picture is maintained.

MARSS' sensors can be cross-correlated at any time to search for additional intelligence on specific targets. The system is network-centric and data can be sent to all commanding levels in the theater.

Israel Aircraft Industries, Ltd. is a leading manufacturer in the international aerospace and defense community and Israel's largest industrial exporter. IAI's ELTA Systems Group, is one of Israel's leading defense electronics companies and a leader in Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR), Early Warning and Control, Home-Land Security (HLS), Self-Protection and Self-Defense and Fire Control applications.
