Pakistan raises issue of embassy bugging with Britain

Islamabad, Jan 22, IRNA - Pakistan has taken up the issue of alleged bugging of its embassy in Britain with high-ranking British officials, Foreign Minister Khurshid Mahmood Kasuri said. According to the daily Nawai Waqt, he told the Senate on Wednesday that Islamabad had recently raised the issue with high-level British officials. Similarly, the minister added, Pakistan had also talked to British foreign minister and the House of Commons Security Committee on the issue. He was responding to the opposition senators queries as to what actions so far had been taken by the government in connection with the alleged bugging of the embassy some two months ago. The report of bugging of the Pak embassy splashed headlines in the local press here. It alleged British secret agency had installed bugging device in Pakistan`s High Commission in London two years ago. Islamabad has sought clarification from the London on the matter, but so far they have neither confirmed nor denied whether or not the bugging had taken place. MHA/TSH/215 End
