
Oerlikon Contraves awarded with contract for the delivery of an additional Ranger UAV system

The Finnish Defence Forces has awarded Oerlikon Contraves AG, Zurich/Switzerland, with a supply contract for the procurement of an additional Ranger UAV system, designated as FDF Ranger 2 following almost four years after for the signing of the contract for the first Ranger UAV system. This supply contract was concluded on September 22, 2003.
The FDF Ranger 2 consists of air vehicles, the ground control station, the remote communication terminal and stand-alone mobile receiving unit. Also included in the contract are the training package and the integrated logistics support.
The FDF Ranger 2 UAV system will be operated by the Finnish artillery. With the use of the first system the customer has gained quite a lot of experience in the past two years under severe nordic weather conditions and the Ranger UAV System has demonstrated its excellent capabilities and qualification.
The delivery of this FDF Ranger 2 system is foreseen for autumn 2005. The supply contract will be handled by Oerlikon Contraves AG as the consortium leader with RUAG, Emmen, and Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd., Tel Aviv, as consortium members. A similar type of Ranger UAV system has been delivered by the consortium to the Swiss Armed Forces in the time frame 1999-2001.
