NEW ORLEANS (NNS) -- The Naval Reserve is making a notable contribution to the war on terrorism. That's because, since Sept. 11, 2001, 20,000 (cumulative) Naval Reservists have been recalled to active duty to support the fleet.
A snapshot of the Naval Reserve Intelligence community highlights this contribution. In fact, 40% or 1,600 of the 4,000 members of the Naval Reserve intelligence community have been recalled to active duty since September 2001, according to Naval Reserve Forces Command Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence, Capt. Robert Wood.
"Currently, the Naval Reserve intelligence community has about 800 Reservists on active duty supporting the war on terrorism," said Wood. He said that number represents a big part of the total intelligence capability in the Navy today.
"We embody the Naval Reserve motto of seamless integration with the Navy," said Wood, and added that's because a majority of the Naval Reserve intelligence personnel drill at their active-duty gaining commands.
There are 13 Naval Reserve intelligence commands across the nation and 27 joint Reserve intel commands.
Like the Naval Reserve as a whole, the Reserve intelligence community stands ready to support the fleet
