Boeing Australia and Israel Aircraft Industries Team to Offer Unmanned Aerial Vehicles to the Australian Defence Force

Boeing Australia Limited and Israel Aircraft Industries, Ltd. (IAI) today signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to jointly respond to the Australian Defence Force?s (ADF) requirement for enhanced aerial surveillance capability through the acquisition of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), otherwise known as project JP-129.

Mr Shimon Eckhaus, Vice President - Marketing & Business Development, signed the MoA on behalf of IAI, and Mr Terry Brown, General Manager Business Development, on behalf of Boeing Australia, at the 2003 Australian International Air Show, at Avalon, near Melbourne.

Eckhaus stated at the ceremony that the IAI and Boeing Australia partnership offered the ADF a unique combination of proven UAV technologies, experience and potential for growth. "The IAI/Malat family of UAV's have been combat proven in service around the world for over 25 years and the company provides unequalled UAV operational experience."

Brown said that the IAI / Boeing partnership would provide a low risk, cost effective solution for the ADF. ?Boeing Australia has tremendous experience in providing large-scale systems support, Command and Control systems and long-term Logistics Support for the ADF,? he said. ?Combining our expertise with IAI?s proven platforms makes this is a powerful team to bid for JP-129.?

Progressive enhancements of UAV capabilities are expected to provide increased effectiveness and expansion of UAV roles and missions as ADF UAV requirements mature.
