General Dynamics Encryptor Manager Now Available for Windows NT Platform
System Enables Remote PC-based Security Management for IP, ATM Networks
NEEDHAM, Mass. – General Dynamics C4 Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics (NYSE: GD), today announced the release of the latest versions of its General Dynamics Encryptor Manager (GEM) and GEM Lite software for managing FASTLANE and TACLANE encryptors. These new versions run on personal computers using the Windows NT 4.0 operating system. Previous versions of GEM and GEM Lite ran only on UNIX workstations.
The new PC versions of GEM and GEM Lite provide security management for IP and ATM networks from a low-cost platform with which operators are likely to be familiar. This simplifies operator training and reduces the chances of operator error.
Using GEM software on a PC, an operator can remotely manage a complex network of TACLANE Internet Protocol (IP)/Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) encryptors (KG-175), FASTLANE® ATM encryptors (KG-75/75A), and their protected devices, from anywhere in the network. GEM Lite provides encryptor-management features and a user interface that is similar to GEM, but without the extensive database-query capability and network maps provided with GEM. GEM Lite is provided at no cost with the purchase of TACLANE or FASTLANE encryptors.
GEM and GEM Lite reduce operating costs by decreasing personnel requirements and minimizing the time it takes to bring new encryptors online, or to reflect changes in equipment or network configurations.
Both GEM and GEM Lite are fully interoperable with TACLANEs in IP and ATM networks, and with FASTLANEs in high-speed ATM networks. Fronted by a TACLANE encryptor, GEM manages up to 253 TACLANEs or FASTLANEs. Fronted by a FASTLANE encryptor, GEM manages up to 600 FASTLANE encryptors. GEM Lite manages up to 25 encryptors of either type.
The original TACLANE "Classic" Type 1 encryptor provides secure communications in a single device for both IP and ATM networks. TACLANE-E100 is an enhancement to the TACLANE "Classic" encryptor. Designed for both tactical and strategic networks, TACLANE-E100 now encrypts information transmitted over the Internet and other IP networks at a throughput of 100 Megabits per second (Mbps) – equivalent to 2,300 typewritten pages per second, making the TACLANE the fastest Type 1 IP encryptor in the world. The NSA Certified FASTLANE® ATM Encryptor provides high-speed, low latency security for multi-media applications across local and wide are ATM networks. Interfaces are available for throughput speeds ranging from 1.5 Mbps to 2.5 Gbps.
