IAI/ELTA's EL/M-2055 SAR/MTI UAV Reconnaissance Payload
Jun 18, 2001
Paris Air Show, June 2001 - IAI/ELTA's EL/M-2055 is a high performance Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) and Ground Moving Target Indication (GMTI) tactical airborne reconnaissance payload carried by an Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV).
The System consists of the UAV payload, which is a radar sensor with online signal processor and a Ground Exploitation Station (GES). The radar's moderate weight and power consumption, combined with state of the art performance, makes it the optimal choice as the all-weather sensor for mid-size Medium Altitude (MALE) and High Altitude (HALE) UAVs.
In SAR operation modes, the EL/M-2055 produces radar images that approach photographic quality and operates as a true all-weather, day and night sensor capable of penetrating clouds, rain, smoke, smog, fog and manmade camouflage. While the SAR Strip Mode provides fast coverage of areas and mapping details sufficient for target detection and overall assessment of an entire region, the SAR Spot Mode will provide detailed examination of designated areas of interest at high resolution for target classification.
In GMTI Mode the EL/M-2055 will detect and indicate moving targets within a broad range of velocities and over large areas, up to 3600 around the UAV.
The SAR images and GMTI detection generated onboard are transmitted via the UAV's data link to the Ground Exploitation Station (GES) for real-time interpretation and extraction and forwarding of valuable Image Intelligence (IMINT).
ELTA Electronics Industries Ltd., a subsidiary of Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI) Ltd., is one of Israel's leading military electronics systems companies: Radar Systems, Electronic Warfare Systems, Communications Systems, Information Systems, Airborne Early Warning & Control Systems (AEW&C) and Advanced Technologies.
