Lockheed Martin Team Chosen To Compete For Next Phase of the Integrated Broadcast Service Program

GAITHERSBURG, MD, June 26th, 2000 -- Lockheed Martin leads an industry team selected for the competitive first phase of the Integrated Broadcast Service (IBS) program, a Joint Services program that will effectively manage the flow of intelligence data from satellites and sensors to warfighters. The Lockheed Martin team was awarded $2 million for the six-month program definition and risk reduction phase. IBS is a six-year, Department of Defense program for the Joint Services, with a potential value of $60 million. An engineering and manufacturing development contract is expected to be awarded in April 2001.

The IBS service will make the large amounts of data from intelligence gathering satellites and other sensors more manageable for users. The service will allow warfighters, theater commanders and commander-in-chiefs to set preferences for data and information they need, such as enemy troop movements, fortifications, weaponry and terrain obstacles. IBS will have the capability to sort through the streaming data and funnel relevant information to users based on their pre-set mission profiles.

When fielded, IBS will provide continuous, worldwide service to warfighters. Eventually, the service will also provide data in a Common Message Format.

The Lockheed Martin team provides experience and industry leadership in systems integration, information assurance and security, and in solving joint and coalition interoperability issues, key capabilities needed for the IBS program. Team members include General Dynamics, AT&T Defense Programs, Oracle, Veridian MRJ, Cambridge Research, Autometric and NCI Information Systems. Other Lockheed Martin organizations on the team include Space Systems Company-Astronautics Operations and Aeronautics Company-Fort Worth.

The acquisition of IBS is managed by the U.S. Air Force Electronic Systems Center, Hanscom Air Force Base.

A leader in mission critical systems integration and information operations, Lockheed Martin Mission Systems serves customers including U.S. and international defense and civil government agencies. Mission Systems employs approximately 3,800 at major facilities in Gaithersburg, Md., Colorado Springs, Colo., and Santa Maria, Calif., and is a business unit of Lockheed Martin Corporation.
