Elta's Synthetic Aperture Radar with Moving Target Indication Now Available As Unmanned Air Vehicle Payload
Feb 21, 2000
A new high performance Synthetic Aperture Radar with Moving Target Indication (SAR/MTI) has been developed as a payload for Unmanned Air Vehicles (UAV) by ELTA Electronics Industries Ltd., a subsidiary of Israel Aircraft Industries Ltd.
Designated as EL/M-2055 the new high performance Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) with Moving Target Indication (MTI) is a tactical airborne reconnaissance system carried by an Unmanned Air Vehicle (UAV).
Weighing only 112 pounds, the EL/M-2055 can continuously survey areas of interest, precisely locate valuable targets, track mobile threats along their route and instantly perform post-attack damage assessment.
The system consists of a UAV Payload, which is a radar sensor with on-line signal processor and a Ground Exploitation Station (GES).
The EL/M-2055 produces images which approach photographic quality and operates as a true all-weather, day and night sensor capable of penetrating clouds, rain, smoke, smog, fog and man-made camouflage.
The images generated onboard are transmitted via the UAV data link to the Ground Exploitation Station (GES) for interpretation and extraction of valuable Image Intelligence (IMINT).
The system's design enables replacement of an UAV Electro-Optical Payload with the SAR/MTI Payload and simple integration with the existing Data Link and the UAV Ground Control Station (GCS).
The UAV configuration provides the customer with an advanced, state-of-the-art reconnaissance system able to cover large areas and to provide mapping with sufficient detail for target detection and overall assessment of an entire region of interest.
The ELTA system is an efficient, cost effective tool to extract valuable Image Intelligence (IMINT).
