JOHN WHITE NAMED DEPUTY DEFENSE SECRETARY
The president will nominate John White, a director at the Kennedy
School of Government, to be deputy secretary of defense. When
confirmed by the Senate, he would succeed the new director of central
intelligence, John Deutch.
White, who heads the Kennedy School's Center for Business and
Government, has served as a deputy director of the Office of
Management and Budget and as an assistant secretary of defense for
manpower. He is currently chairman of the congressionally-mandated
study of the roles and missions of the armed forces. White's private
sector employment includes service with the Rand Corporation on
national security issues and with Eastman Kodak and Interactive
Systems Corporation.
NATHANSON NAMED TO BROADCASTING BOARD
Clinton will nominate a cable TV executive, Marc Nathanson, to be a
member of the board of governors of the International Broadcasting
Bureau. The nine-member board supervises the Voice of America, Radio
Free Europe/Radio Liberty, Worldnet, Radio and TV Marti and the
planned Radio Free Asia.
