Afghanistan - January 7, 2002
This is a post-strike aerial of a camp and cave complex near Zhawar Kili where members of al Qaeda were observed attempting to regroup. The camp was struck on January 3rd and has been struck on several occasions since Wednesday, January 2, 2002, including over the following weekend. The airstrikes were conducted by B-1 and tactical aircraft from the carriers.
According to DoD, there also had previously been some above-ground facilities, and this was used to store military equipment as well as supplies.
Visible in the image are the cave openings on the side of the cliffs that run down through this large wadi and which have been closed.
