NATO Operation Unified Protector - Imagery
UK MOD Operation Ellamy
Video & Imagery - Libyan Navy Koni-Class Frigate
Released August 09/11, 2011
The comparative imagery below is of a Libyan Navy Koni-Class Frigate moored on the military side of the port of Tripoli.
The ship had been damaged previously during a prior NATO airstrike, but battle damage assessment indicated that the ship retained an offensive capability. Airborne suveillance and reconnaissance imagery had indicated that pro-Qhadaffi forces were active around that ship and were removing weapons and munitions from the ship for use elsewhere.
The target was struck by Royal Air Force aircraft on 8 August 2011 using two Paveway IV bombs in order to prevent pro-Qhaddafi forces from removing weaponry from the ship.
The airstrike reportedly left the vessel taking on water.
