Video footage of a 24 May 2011 airstrike on a Libyan coastal radar station near Brega.
On May 24, 2011, Royal Air Force Tornado and Typhoon aicraft, operating as part of NATO Operation Unified Protector struck and destroyed a Libyan coastal radar station.
The site was destroyed using a lone dual-mode seeker Brimstone missile.
Coalition officials settled on the use of this weapon despite it being designed for use against vehicles. According to the UK MOD, the Brimstone's relatively small warhead allowed for the destruction of the site's radar unit without incurring the destruction of the building and thereby reducing the risk of collateral damage.
