Southern Command

Southern Command is headquartered at Poona and is responsible for Gujrat and Maharashtra. It consists of the XII and the XXI Corps.

At a solemn ceremony, Lt Gen GS Sihota, GOC-in-C marked the raising of 41 Artillery Division by presenting Maj Gen RS Jambusarwalla, MG, Artillery, Southern Command a trophy. With the raising of the Artillery Division, a long-felt need of synergised fire-power for Southern Command had been fulfilled.

As of early 2002 the 50th Independent Parachute Brigade and the 333rd Missile Group (Prithvi unit) were believed to have deployed to Punjab and Rajasthan.
