Firebase Cobra is located in Oruzgan Province of Central Afghanistan close to the isolated village of Sarsina. Civil Affairs Team 745 was stationed at Fire Base Cobra in Oruzgan with Special Operations Detachments from the 3rd Special Forces Group, and members of the Afghan National Army and the Afghan National Police.
On November 2, 2007 the teams, and their Afghan counterparts, left the firebase to visit the village of Sarsina in order to conduct medical capabilities mission as well as a humanitarian aid drop.
Once they arrived at the village they discovered it had been evacuated and the Taliban was entrenched into several fighting positions in an attempt to ambush Coalition forces in the area. The teams engaged at least three hundred Taliban fighters in the ensuing firefight. At one point CA 745 had to go in and rescue the Special Forces Commander who got caught between the American and Taliban lines when they reoriented their vehicles in a fighting position, eventually reaching him and pulling back. There were no serious coalition casualties and no reports on enemy casualties and less than six months later Sarsina was returned to the villagers. One member of CA 745 recieved The Silver Star for Valor, while two other members of his team recieved the Bronze Star.
