Combined Mission Spacecraft

The expected launch of the combined Koronas-Photo payload from the Plesetsk Spaceflight Launch Center is expected January 29, 2009 but it was announced as having taken place January 30th 2009 due to technical delays on the 29th. It was placed in space with the successful launch of the Cyclone-3 booster. The spacecraft is a continuance of the Koronas series combined with the Photon mission series international scientific cooperation series designed to study the interaction of the Sun and its impact on earth and as space weather issue affecting manned spaceflight. It is being operated by the Russian Federal Space Agency under the Living with a Star (LWS) program with instruments from India and the Ukraine in addition to the primary mission spacecraft designed and built by Russia. Koronas-1 was launched March 2, 1994 while the Coronas-F was launched July 31, 2001.
