Modeling and Simulation
Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO) Modeling and Simulation (M&S) Catalog
This menu contains the BMDO (Ballistic Missile Defense Organization) catalog of some 90 different models and simulations. A text search utility is also available for this July 1994 catalog. The BMDO M&S catalog is part of the Modeling and Simulation Resource Repository (MSRR) node for the M&S Directories, which includes descriptions of the models and simulations maintained by various defense agencies.
Theater Missile Defense (TMD) Scenario
SAMSON The scenario is a scaled-down and highly-idealized example of coordinated theater missile defense using ground- and air-based assets. The generic assets and their behaviors are described below. In some instances, fairly specific times, distances, and operations have been provided; these should be considered typical or illustrative and not taken literally.
Synthetic Scene Generation Model (SSGM)
"The SSGM is being developed for the BMDO under the direction and control of the Space Science Division of the Naval Research Laboratory... The Synthetic Scene Generation Model (SSGM) is the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization's (BMDO) benchmark for measuring the ability of various electro-optical sensors and advanced surveillance and interceptor concepts to perform their intended mission. The SSGM aids users in simulating a battlefield environment in which ballistic missiles are detected, acquired, tracked, and engaged." Site includes a gallery of images and a list of contractors.
Theater Missile Defense
Space Science Division, Naval Research Laboratory The Synthetic Scene Generation Model (SSGM) is the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization's (BMDO) benchmark for measuring the ability of various electro-optical sensors and advanced surveillance and interceptor concepts to perform their intended mission. The SSGM has been designed to support and is used for Theater Missile Defense (TMD) and National Missile Defense (NMD).
Kinetic Energy Weapon (KEW) Digital Emulation Center (KDEC)
Sponsored by the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (formerly the Strategic Defense Initiative Organization), the United States Army Space & Strategic Defense Command operates KDEC as a multi-service ground test facility for KEW acquisition support. In this role, KDEC offers key products and services to all KEW technology demonstrations and programs.
Naval Air Warfare Center Weapons Division (NAWCWPNS) IRSTORM II gives developers more sophisticated modeling capabilities for IR seekers. China Lake engineers are now working to modify the program for use with air-to-surface weapons systems (such as SLAM), and theater missile defense and integrated fuze guidance technologies.
