On November 18, in Moscow the regular Russian-Chinese consultations on outer space security in an inter-agency format took place.
The Sides exchanged their assessments of the current situation in this area and confirmed the importance of active joint efforts on prevention of an arms race in outer space (PAROS).
The delegations emphasized the urgency of early launching negotiations on an international legally binding instrument on PAROS on the basis of the Russian-Chinese draft Treaty on Prevention of the Placement of Weapons in Outer Space, the Threat or Use of Force against Outer Space Objects and on the report of the UN Group of Governmental Experts on PAROS that worked in 2023-2024.
The relevance of the international initiative/political commitment on No First Placement of Weapons in Outer Space was acknowledged as well as the need of joint steps towards its universalization.
Particular attention was paid to further coordination in promoting the common position on PAROS in the specialized multilateral fora.
The meeting confirmed the unity of the Russian and Chinese approaches to outer space security. The need for further close cooperation in this area was noted.
