David's Sling Air and Missile Defense System Successfully Completes Advanced Upgrade Tests
25-NEWS-0008
August 4, 2025
The Israel Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) and the U.S. Missile Defense Agency successfully completed a series of developmental flight tests of the David's Sling Weapon System in July.
The scenarios simulated future threats, enhancing the system's capabilities and significantly improving the system capabilities to face the variety of threats in the various combat arenas of the IDF. These successful tests represent another significant breakthrough in upgrading the system, which has already demonstrated high operational capabilities during the Swords of Iron War and Operation Rising Lion, with successful operational interceptions that saved lives and prevented substantial damage.
The David's Sling system is specifically designed to counter advanced threats like ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, aircraft, and unmanned systems. It provides a central defensive layer within Israel's layered air and missile defense architecture that also includes the Arrow weapon system, the Iron Dome Defense system, and in the near-future Iron Beam system whose development is led by the Directorate of Defense Research & Development (DDR&D) in the Israel Ministry of Defense (IMOD).
The David's Sling Weapon System is jointly developed by IMDO and MDA.
