The Security Council met this afternoon on the topic of non-proliferation. Before the Council was a draft resolution put forward by the Russian Federation on the prevention of an arms race in outer space. The resolution failed to be adopted by a vote of 7 in favour (Algeria, China, Ecuador, Guyana, Mozambique, Russian Federation, Sierra Leone) to 7 against (France, Japan, Malta, Republic of Korea, Slovenia, United Kingdom, United States), with 1 abstention (Switzerland).
