In a message he shared on the occasion of Türkiye's first manned space mission, the first leg of the National Space Program, President Erdoğan said: "We are stepping into the second century of our Republic, the Century of Türkiye, with our first manned space mission."
President Erdoğan said: "We are stepping into the second century of our Republic, the Century of Türkiye, with our first manned space mission. As the heirs of a civilization that has provided unique contributions to the history of science, we are making a very valuable new beginning to execute our historical mission. We are sending a Turkish citizen into space for the first time in order to inspire our young people looking at the horizon with sparkle in their eyes and our children whose dreams outgrow this world."
Noting that Alper Gezeravcı, who served heroically as a jet pilot of the Turkish Air Force for years, is going on a journey to the International Space Station today after long preparations and training, President Erdoğan stated: "We are thus turning one of our goals in the National Space Program, which we announced to the world in 2021, into reality. Within the scope of the 'Turkish Science Mission,' which will last for 14 days at the International Space Station, 13 experiments will be conducted for which our scientists have been prepared. Scientific studies will be carried out in fields such as astronomy, medicine, genetics and materials science. I hope that those studies will be beneficial for our country and for our scientists. May Allah open our path and fortune."
