Tehran (ISNA) – Ahead of 40th anniversary of Iranian Revolution and towards Iran's space goals, experts and scientists of Iranian Ministry of Defense's Aerospace Industries Organization successfully designed and produced Simorgh launch vehicle which launched Payam satellite.

"With the will and efforts of Aerospace Industries Organization's experts and researchers, designing and producing larger vehicle launchers were put in the organization's agenda, after designing, producing and launching launch vehicles of 'Safir 1' family which joined Iran to other countries with satellite launching technology," Iran's Defense Minister, Brigadier-General Amir Hatami said.

"Simorgh as the first step towards the goal was developed aimed at launching 250kg satellites to orbits with 500km altitude," Hatami added.

Regarding Simorgh's structure and guidance system, the minister said, "The control and guidance system of the project is the developed version of Safir family's. Considering the increase of missile's diameter from 1.25m in Safir launcher vehicle to 2.4m, the technology used in Simorgh launcher is totally new and has been developed in Iran for the first time".
