NATO defense system poses no threat to Iran: Turkish Ambassador

TEHRAN (ISNA)-Turkish Ambassador to Tehran Umit Yardim said deployment of NATO defense system pose no threat to any country particularly Iran.

As to Turkish acceptance for the deployment of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) defense system in the country’s soil Umit Yardim said, “First I should mention that the system should not be called missile system, but "Radar Alarming System" and also the fact that Turkey is a NATO member state should be accepted and noticed. There is no reason for Iran to be concerned about NATO radar system.”

He added NATO system is an absolute defensive one and pointed out, “Iran and Turkey have always enjoyed a good relation and Iran should not be worried about the deployment of the system in Turkish soil.”

“The mutual relation between the two countries is boosting in different fields of politic, economic, tourism and culture,” Yardim told ISNA.

He added, "Iran is one of the key countries for Turkey in the region and Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan will visit Iran in coming months in line with the issue. Talks between Iran and 5+1countries should continue and Turkey supports the talks."
