TEHRAN (ISNA)-Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said deployment of NATO missile shield is the continuation of the cold war policy.

Mehmanparast continued, “Iran condemns any measure leading to militarization of the world and consequently launch of arms race in the region and the world. The measures are against the international community and global security."

As to deployment of a part of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) missile system in Turkey, Mehmanparast said, ”We believe deployment of NATO missile system in Turkey will not help the establishment of dignity and security in the region and even the security of the host country.”

He stressed, ”The history of the issue shows that NATO missile defense shield system is the continuation of the same US suspicious project pursued in Eastern Europe for years and Washington follows the same policy followed during the cold war. But it is now concealing it under NATO coverage and tries to change the regional security factors toward the West's desirable path."

He continued, ”The Islamic Republic of Iran believes the reinforcement of NATO presence in the region causes insecurity in the region which results in providing western domination.”

He then turned to Turkey and added, “We expect the neighboring and friendly countries to be vigilant and do not pave the way for policy of tension and consider the benefits of the region’s security."
