TEHRAN (ISNA) - Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said on Monday that the country plans to launch bigger satellites to the altitude of 35,000 kilometers above the earth's surface in future.

"We will take further steps (on launch of satellites) in 2011 and we will place larger satellites to the altitude of 35000 kilometers above the earth's surface in future. We will meet our needs entirely," he said in the north western Iranian city of Zanjan as inaugurating two dams.

Ahmadinejad then highlighted Iran's progress in sending satellite into orbit and said that, "Iran managed to launch a satellite into space last week. We sent a telecommunications satellite into space two years ago and now we have launched a sensing one recently."

"Chains of Iran's mighty presence in the space are being completed swiftly. The previous satellite could receive message, but this one can take photos as well and it has geological and metrological uses."
