04 February 2011
Thales Alenia Space España has provided its technology and products to a total of 19 satellites placed into orbit in 2010 worldwide.
This data confirms Thales Alenia Space España position as the Spanish company with the largest international commercial presence and with the most number of systems and equipment manufactured and placed onboard satellites. Thales Alenia Space España equipped 19 satellites with more than 170 systems and equipment in the areas of telecommunications, radiofrequency and digital, all the products developed and manufactured in its facility in Tres Cantos (Madrid) and with multiple satellite uses: telecommunications (1), scientific satellites (2) and for the Earth observation (3).
Along with the contributions made to these 19 satellites, it is worth mentioning the company’s participation in Cryosat 2, a European Space Agency mission dedicated to measuring the thickness of polar and marine ice sheets. During this mission, the newest Thales Alenia Space España generation of telecommunication systems was used.
Specifically, this mission was the first flight of our last generation telecommunications system, responsible for liaison with the Earth stations to send telemetry and command data satellite and sciences data mission as well. Equally noteworthy is the success of the first test of the PRISMA mission, carried out by the French National Centre for Spatial Studies (CNES), for guidance navigation, control and in-flight validation of technologies to be used in future missions of formatting flights satellites. For this mission, the Spanish company provided radiofrequency transmitters and receptors that provide the relative position in real time and services for communication between vehicles, with dynamic range within 3m and 30 km, an accuracy of 1 cm and an angular precision of 1 degree.
Thales Alenia Space is currently working in more than a hundred of space-related projects and R & D, developing advanced telecommunications systems, repeaters, radiofrequency equipment, digital units and electronics for optical observation and detection instruments, the company plans to participate in more than 30 satellites to be launched into space in 2011.
With over two decades of activity since its establishment, Thales Alenia Space España consolidated its leadership as the largest supplier of telecommunications equipment of the Spanish space sector, with a total participation in more than 270 projects for more than 180 satellite programs worldwide for civil and military uses.
