Delayed launch of Russian weather satellite scheduled for Wed.
05:57 16/09/2009 MOSCOW, September 16 (RIA Novosti) - Russia will launch a new meteorological satellite on Wednesday after the previous launch was delayed by poor weather conditions at the Baikonur space center.
The launch is scheduled for 19:55 Moscow time [15:55 GMT] Wednesday.
At present, Russia does not have any weather satellites in orbit and uses meteorological data from U.S. and European weather agencies.
The new-generation Meteor-M weather satellite and five smaller satellites are to be launched on board the Soyuz 2.1b carrier rocket from the Baikonur space center in Kazakhstan.
Meteor-M weighs about 2,700 kilograms (6,000 lbs) and has a service life of five years. It will orbit at an altitude of 830 kilometers (515 miles).
