Israel Aerospace Industries' AMOS 3 Communications Satellite Successfully Launched This Morning and on Course to Final Orbital Slot

Apr 28, 2008

IAI's President & CEO, Itzhak Nissan: "This is another achievement to Israel Aerospace Industries. Once again we demonstrate our technological prowess"

Israel Aerospace Industries’ AMOS 3 communications satellite AMOS 3 communications satellite was launched today to space at 08:00 Israel Standard Time ((IST) (GMT+2 hours)) by the Zenit launcher from Baikonur, Kazakhstan.

The satellite is proceeding to its final orbital slot at 4 degrees west. A first testing of the satellites’ systems shows that they are functioning properly. The Geosynchronous Orbit operations and further testing are progressing on schedule.

IAI's President & CEO, Itzhak Nissan, said a couple of minutes ago: "AMOS 3 communication satellite, which was launched today, will join AMOS 1 and AMOS 2 satellites, which were also built by IAI. AMOS 3 is at the forefront of communication satellites in the world. This is another achievement to Israel Aerospace Industries, which is the prime contactor for all space-related programs in Israel. IAI has a proven record of success in space. All its satellites have exceeded their scheduled lifetime and have provided performance beyond our expectations. We are proud of these achievements which demonstrate IAI's technological prowess, as a member of a very exclusive club of companies who build and operate satellites in space."

AMOS 3 communications satellite was built for Space Communications (Spacecom) Company, operator of the AMOS 1 and AMOS 2 broadcast and communication satellites. Spacecom’s service areas include Europe, the Middle-East and North America. Spacecom provides trans-Atlantic connectivity between the U.S. East Coast and the Middle-East. AMOS 3 communications satellite, with its improved capabilities, will allow Spacecom to broaden its line of services.

IAI is currently developing the next generation of communication satellites – the AMOS 4 communications satellite. AMOS 4 will substantially contribute to the ability of Spacecom to supply a wide range of communication service to its customers.

Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) is Israel's "Space System House". IAI's MBT Space Division has launched three satellites into space in the last ten months, among them the TECSAR Synthetic Aperture Radar satellite, which supplies high-resolution imagery. IAI currently operates eight satellites from its ground control stations and develops the next generations of imaging satellites.
