ISS Crew Completes Spacewalk Work on Harmony Module

By VOA News
24 November 2007

Two U.S. astronauts have completed the external wiring on a new component of the International Space Station during a spacewalk on the orbital outpost.

Peggy Whitson, commander of the ISS crew, and Dan Tani hooked up a set of electrical and fluid connections linking the station to the Harmony module during the seven-hour spacewalk Saturday. The module was delivered to the space station last month by the crew of the U.S. space shuttle Discovery.

The ISS crew has been working to make Harmony operational before a European-built laboratory named Columbus is delivered to the station next month.

Also during the spacewalk, Tani inspected a faulty joint that rotates a set of solar panels on the space station. He took digital pictures and samples of metallic shavings found inside the joint.
