RAFAEL Receives Space Contracts From Astrium

October 4, 2006 – Haifa. -- Astrium Space Transportation GmbH of Germany has awarded RAFAEL Armament Development Authority Ltd. two contracts for the delivery of propellant tanks and hydrazine thrusters for the propulsion sub-system of the Galileo Navigation System constellation. The contracts are for the In-Orbit-Validation (IOV) phase of the Galileo system.

RAFAEL will develop and deliver a lightweight, 586 mm external diameter, spherical, positive-expulsion propellant tank and will modify and deliver its off-the-shelf 1Newton hydrazine thruster to meet the Galileo requirements.

The contracts have been awarded to RAFAEL within the framework of the Israeli government subscription to Galileo.

RAFAEL previously supplied its 420 mm, spherical, positive-expulsion propellant tank to Astrium-ST, for incorporation in the propulsion sub-system of Astium's GIOVE-B satellite. GIOVE-B is scheduled for launch in 2007.
