
LOCKHEED MARTIN DELIVERS EXTERNAL TANK-123 TO NASA FOR DECEMBER SHUTTLE FLIGHT
NEW ORLEANS, LA., September 14th, 2006 -- External Tank-123 departed via ocean-going barge today from the NASA Michoud Assembly Facility enroute to Kennedy Space Center.
Lockheed Martin Space Systems – Michoud Operations delivered ET-123 to NASA yesterday and rolled the tank to the enclosed barge.
The tank will fly on the STS-116 mission in December. The mission will deliver a third truss segment, a SPACEHAB module and other key components during the Space Shuttle's 20th flight to the International Space Station.
The 850-mile trip from New Orleans across the Gulf of Mexico and up the Atlantic Ocean side of Florida to Kennedy Space Center takes about five days.
