European Rocket Launch Delayed

13 November 2005

Space officials have delayed the launch of a European Ariane rocket carrying two telecommunications satellites.

Arianespace, a commercial European company, released a statement saying a problem was encountered during final preparations. No further details were released.

The blast-off was set for Saturday evening from the European Space Agency's launch pad in French Guiana, South America.

Officials have not announced a new launch date.

The Ariane-5 rocket is to release one Spaceway 2 satellite for a U.S.-based entertainment service, DirecTV, and one Telkom 2 satellite for Indonesia.

There have been three Ariane 5 flights this year.

The European Space Agency has been launching satellites into orbit since 1979.
