
RAFAEL, IAI cooperate on Microsatellites
Israel Aircraft Industries and Rafael Establish Joint Company for Development and Production of Microsatellites
Agreement signed today at Le Bourget – Paris Air Show
16 June 2005 Le Bourget, France - A joint agreement between Israel Aircraft Industries and Rafael Armament Development Authority Ltd to establish a company for development and production of microsatellites was signed this morning at the Paris Air Show.
The joint company will develop, produce and market microsatellites weighing up to 120 kg for a large variety of both civil and military applications.
The first project on the company's agenda will be Project "Venus" – a microsatellite to be developed for the Israeli and French Space Agencies. This microsatellite is of scientific-technological nature for monitoring tasks by means of a highly sophisticated camera, for agriculture, fishing etc. The satellite will also explore electric propulsion technology in space. This initial task involves a multi-million dollar budget.
Director General, Ministry of Science & Technology, Mrs. Tali Rosenbaum said at the signing ceremony that “this is an additional rewarding collaboration between Israeli companies by which Israel will earn worldwide recognition.”
Director General, Israel Aircraft Industries, Mr. Moshe Keret stated that “IAI which is Israel's leading developer of space systems will continue to form cooperative agreements with other Israeli companies for the advancement of innovative space projects.”
President and CEO, Rafael, VADM Yedidia Yaari added that “this is yet another important technological breakthrough which places Israel at the frontline of international space leadership.”
