Arrow Anti-Ballistic Missile Systems' Second Test at Point Mugu, U.S.

Aug 29, 2004

Following is Israel Ministry of Defense Spokesperson's Announcement:

The Arrow anti-ballistic system participated Aug. 26, 2004, in a joint Israel - United States flight test as part of the ongoing Arrow System Improvement Program (ASIP).

The test was conducted at Point Mugu, California, and its goal was to intercept on unreal threat that represents an extreme condition and to collect engineering information. This was the second in a series of tests following a previous successful test.

The surrogate target was supplied by the MDA target office and was air launched. This target does not represent a real threat.

The Fire Control Radar (FCR) acquired the target and sent its data to the Battle Management Center (BMC). A defense plan was issued and the mission commend directive was sent to the launcher. The Arrow interceptor was launched towards the target but the mission was not completed. Many of the test objectives were achieved and all the results are being analyzed by test engineers.
This test does not influence the operational status of the system in the Israeli Air Force.

The system was developed jointly by Israel and the US and is managed by the Israeli Missile Defense Organization (IMDO) in close cooperation with the U.S Missile Defense Agency (MDA).
Israel Aircraft Industries/ MLM Division is the prime contractor for the Arrow Weapon System.
