US Air Force to pay Boeing, Lockheed more
PLA Daily 2004-02-27
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The US Air Force will pay 50 percent more to Boeing Co. and Lockheed Martin Corp. to send military satellites into space, the Bloomberg News reported on Thursday.
Based on a preliminary estimate, payments will increase to as much as 135 million dollars per launch from 91 million dollars because the Air Force wants to ensure the companies stay in the military program, the report said.
The Air Force plans to spend 4 billion dollars on launch services through 2009 using systems developed by Boeing and Lockheed, the report said.
The two companies are relying more on military contracts as the commercial market shrank by almost two-thirds.
